Painted onsite in Lower Manhattan during the events of September 11th, Stephen Stoller created this extraordinary body of work in real time as history unfolded around him. Working directly from life amid the unfolding crisis, Stoller documented the atmosphere, destruction, and emotional weight of the day with immediacy and clarity.

From his downtown vantage point, he produced nineteen original oil paintings, each serving as a firsthand visual record rather than a retrospective interpretation. Smoke, light, debris, and the shifting skyline are rendered with urgency and restraint, preserving both the physical reality and the human gravity of the moment.

This series stands as both an artistic achievement and a historical document — a rare collection of works created contemporaneously with one of the most consequential days in modern American history.
